The Head of Finance and Budgeting (HFB) will be the person primarily responsible for overseeing the financial and monetary operations of The Overseas Dispatch. This person will execute the mission of The Overseas Dispatch by shrewdly and efficiently managing its finances, balancing its budget, and ensuring financial compliance across all organization departments. The HFB will effectively be the highest-ranking individual directly responsible for ensuring the sustained, prudent, and beneficial allotment and maintenance of all company revenue. This person will directly supervise the Finance and Budgeting Team and will report to the Director of Administration. 

The HFB’s formal responsibilities include:

  • Establishing the policies, procedures, meetings, communications, and accountability checks of the Finance and Budgeting Team;
  • Compiling detailed financial records of all financial investments, grants, donations, funding campaigns, and service revenue in the company;
  • Devising and facilitating the execution of all itemized budgets in accordance with the requirements of the Outreach, Marketing, Diversity and Inclusion, Content Creation, and Technology departments;
  • Developing quarterly financial plans and projections for the company that include key takeaways and suggestions for financial initiatives or budget reordering;
  • Conferring with the Head of Human Resources and the Director of Administration on related initiatives, implementation, strategic execution, and related issues;
  • If desired, convening, hiring, and supervising other team members in Finance and Budgeting;
  • Managing and providing ongoing training in financial literacy to other departments and teams as needed;
  • Compiling reports of team needs, project possibilities, work updates, potential problems, and feedback

Qualifications

The successful applicant will be able to excel at all of the responsibilities outlined above. This person will additionally be able to communicate effectively and civilly with other Overseas Dispatch employees; maintain professionalism in their activities; adhere to all essential guidelines; offer honest and transparent feedback about department operations; and bring a positive attitude to their role as a team Head.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field
  • At least two years of experience in managing budgets or overseeing financial portfolios
  • Exceptional organizational and mathematic skills
  • Strong familiarity with financial software and ability to use it
  • Excellent short- and long-term judgment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
